Eliminating gender discrimination and empowering women are among the paramount challenges facing the world today. When women are healthy, educated and free to take the opportunities life affords them, children thrive and countries flourish, reaping a double dividend for women and children. – Kofi A. Annan, former Secretary-General of the United Nations. (UNICEF (2007)).
In March 2021, Tanzania’s then president, John Magufuli, died of Covid-19. With the death of the president, Vice-President Samia Suluhu, became the first female president of Tanzania.
Although Tanzania has been considered to be at the forefront for gender equality in more recent years, there are cultural and traditional norms that prevent women from being able to work freely. Women need to be able to stay home, cook and take care of the children. Yet, they also need an income to help sustain their home.
At Love Nisa, we have partnered with TATU Project, a local NGO, to bring you our gorgeous Tanzania collection. TATU helped us coordinate the creation of each bracelet. With beautiful African designs, each bracelet is handmade by women in the rural village of Msitu Wa Tembo in Northern Tanzania. We hope you will help us support and empower women globally.
